Or, Ever Forward! As my sister and I have been known to adopt as a motto. Particularly while moving me to Pennsylvania from my former home in Texas. But that’s not really important right now.
Anyway. I dig things that make you think of movement, and progression, and the not necessarily negative inevitability of change. It’s all about the liminality, man. Because to move forward you have to engage in the journey to get there; it’s not just done by closing your eyes and having “forward” happen to you.
So. This photo–probably more than any that I’ve taken recently–says “forward”. There’s the curve of the tracks, and I always find myself sort of craning my neck to try and see what’s around the bend. It’s a great unknown out there; do we stay where we are and not explore, or do we see what’s around that bend, and the next, and the next? Plus, it’s taken at sunrise, so hooray to the dawning of a new day!
Ever forward, my friends.

Aww, Terri, you left out the best part–which is that “Ever Forward” became our motto AFTER we put the truck into reverse for the first time and nearly jack-knived your car and the trailer! Good times!
I love that bend in the river.

What bend in the river? This was at the Finger Lakes.

I thought it was River Road, too! My BFF grew up in the farmhouse at that bend, and I’ve walked that section of the tracks many times.
Reading this made me realize why I’ve been feeling so stuck lately. It’s because for the past couple of months, I haven’t had the energy to engage with what I need to do to move forward and have been instead spending a lot of time with my eyes closed imagining what “forward” will look like. It’s starting to get a little better, but man, am I tired of standing with one foot on the beginning of the bridge.

Visualization is good, but when it’s the only thing you do… You’re not the only person in the world who’s ever experienced that, FYI. I get to the point where I’m like, man, I’m so sick of hearing myself complain. How ’bout I shut up and just do something about it? Congratulations on recognizing the rut, and thanks for saying this picture helped you understand that. I’m on your side!

I should probably, with your permission, print this photo and hang it on my fridge as a reminder-to-self. The last thing I need right now is a jack-knife situation 🙂

No kidding, sister. Ever forward! I’m honored. Of course you can put it on your fridge. XO

Thanks! I’m not normally an early riser, but sunrise photography is kind of special. I always have a good day when I get out super-early and greet it. I’m glad you understand. 🙂

Although I knew it was taken on Seneca Lake, I, too, was reminded of River Road in Lewisburg PA.

Love the utilitarian strength of the steel-wood-stone vs the contrast of the feathery burnt sienna natural elements in the background. Very nice of Mother Nature to place those decorative borders on your perfectly balanced composition.

Maybe it’s my iPhone, but I can’t not see a panda head in this pic now. The orange shrub-puffs are the ears. Sorry, I’ve been staring at this tiny screen too long.
